LV Middlesbrough complete a major oil and gas project for Costain.

8/6/2007

LV Middlesbrough has recently completed a major project for Costain Oil & Gas Process Ltd who in turn was contracted to Conoco Phillips at the Teesside Seal Sands oil terminal.

LV was responsible for the whole of the shipping and transport concept together with the co-ordination and supervision of the defined works.

The work involved several activities including ships chartering, freight forwarding, international and UK heavy haulage transport, engineering, and installation of major assemblies direct to the oil jetties. The contract had an overall value in excess of 1.1M Euros.

The main feature of this project being the shipment from Immingham of 4No pre-assembled units each weighing 58 tonnes (dimensions of 6.5mts W x 11.5mts L x 10.8mts H) and 4No loading arms from Tees Commerce Park quayside each weighing 50 tonnes (dimensions of 3.0mts W x 5.0mts L x 22.6mts H).

The next challenge was to then install (utilising the ships crane) one pre-assembled unit and one loading arm onto four of the jetties at the Teesside Seal Sands Oil Terminal.

The jetty lifting and installation aspect of the work required high precision lifting and protection of the existing infrastructure, and in this regard LV chartered the A2SEA vessel Sea Energy for their experience of offshore lifting operations with wind turbine components. This proved to be invaluable.

LV also transported approximately 300 tonnes of vessels from a manufacturing facility in Italy to quayside at Vibo Valentia, chartered a heavy lift vessel for discharge at Hartlepool and onward heavy haulage transport through to site.

Pre-planning and great awareness to the Health and Safety requirements for the continuously operating terminal were key to ensuring that there would be no problems during the operational phase of the work.

Despite continuous adverse weather conditions during the planned installation phase, all the work was completed ahead of schedule and within budget.
